Comprehensive Treatment Options
Our patients are offered a wide variety of nonsurgical and surgical treatments.
Our physicians carefully counsel patients regarding their diagnoses and explain the different prognoses
for both nonsurgical and surgical therapies. We think that it is important for patients to make informed
choices about treatment options. We encourage our patients to try nonsurgical therapy whenever possible.
Routine therapies include the following:
-
Behavior modification.
Two forms of behavior modification, timed voiding and prompted voiding, are used at Northeast Urogynecology to
effectively control the symptoms of urgency, frequency, and incontinence.
-
Biofeedback.
This provides patients with information about the activity of their bladder, urethra, and pelvic floor muscles
that may enable them to restore continence through exercise training.
-
Pelvic floor stimulation.
Electrical stimulation of the pelvic floor muscles, performed either in the office or at home,
is an effective way to treat several forms of incontinence.
-
Medication.
Various medications are available at Northeast Urogynecology to treat incontinence and other voiding dysfunction.
-
Injections.
In-office urethral injections are a very effective method of treating certain types of urine leakage.
-
Devices.
Recently the FDA has approved a number of removable devices shown to be effective in treating incontinence,
most of which are available through Northeast Urogynecology.
-
Surgery.
We perform many different operations, depending on the patient's age, activity level, and diagnosis.
Vaginal, abdominal, and minimally invasive methods are widely utilized.
-
New techniques.
We also invite our patients to participate in a number of experimental studies at Northeast Urogynecology.
These include the use of new medications, new operations, electrical stimulation, injections, and devices
to control incontinence.
